New members - joining if phone number is witheld?
ChrisGamlin - 25/5/07 at 07:00 PM

Hi all

Im asking this on behalf of a chap on Pistonheads who wants to join but is having problems because his phone number is witheld so can't be verified.

Now that the extra security measures are in place to prevent that idiot re-joining by verifying a phone number, whats the procedure for legitimate people to join in this case?

cheers

Chris

pretty sure you can "unwithhold" your number, by dialing 1470 before dialing out

I dont know how Chris's system works to verify the number though, so Im not sure if it helps. I assumed it would simply be some kind of lookup of the number rather than actually making a call but might be wrong.

You can - I do that. 1470 pre dialling the number required.

I didn't know we had this system in place...how flash!

Yup....its been in place for a few weeks now.

I have a permanent ex-directory number, so ChrisW and I tested this a few times, before launch.

Where the number is a 'selective with-hold' then as stated above, just dial to release it as stated, before making the call.

A mobile phone can be used, but this phone must be used when making the call to join up, so that the number can be verified.

The call doesn't take long, so even if a mobile has to be used, it wont cost a fortune.

Question has been pretty much answered above, tbh. Thanks for everyone's input.

The phone call system was intended to get rid of trolls.... eg ggnor... and seems to have worked.

Call takes <2 mins, and is to a London (0207) number, so even if you have to use a mobile, it shouldn't cost more than a few pence.
