Building a Camper
caber - 3/6/07 at 08:34 PM

A new friend has seen the locost under construction and asked if I could build a camper for them as they have been working on some new designs! How would i set about building a chassis and what would people suggest for a donor, preferably a diesel front wheel drive so I can get a very low floor at the back?

my local council bolton lancs use a variety of very low chassis cabs with rear boxes to transport lawn mowers

Depending on what type of camper they want, have a look at a Mazda Bongo and do something similar to a Ford Galaxy or Renault Espace.

Probably not what you were thinking but and original Vdub camper with subaru flat four and a bright coloured paint job would be pretty cool. If I had the time and space it'd be my next project.

I think (and I may be wrong) that a 911 engine ofits quite neatly without too much messing about

VW campers have the turning circle of a supertanker, we were on a site last year with a couple of them parked near us and they needed the whole field to turn round in

The one I had, had the brakes of a supertanker too

VW campers are alright but we had to throw the dog out if we wanted to make a brew with the bed down. Convert a Merc Sprinter thats what I would be doing if funds allowed.
