HELP!
Confused but excited. - 4/6/07 at 09:25 PM

I have not yet reached that part of the learning curve that deals with fuel injection systems, so...

I have just aquired a Renault Espace ('93). It is fine in every respect except that on start-up it ticks over at 2000/2500 rpm and rising, then stabilises at about 3000 rpm. It should be 800 rpm give or take 25 rpm.
Question; Is it likely to be the ECU, or a sensor, such as Lambda, Mass air flow etc.
What I really want to know is; is it something I could sort myself or is it a stealership jobby? (Emphasis on the 'jobby' )
Any helpful, or failing that funny, suggestions would be appreciated.

Does it have anything as simple as a throttle stop on it? Or something else allowing the throtlle to not shut? If not, maybe a faulty idle control valve?

Ah! Rob, beat me to it, thought that might know the answer, (and "appear" inteligent). As said I would check for an air leak first, wouldn't take much to up the rev's. HTH Ray
