We have a couple of the BUSH branded ones from tesco, cost somewhere around £30 and they work just fine.

You can have a demo tomorow

I've got

1) JVC one cost a mint quite pretty under the TV, works well
2) Cheap as chips Durabrand from ASDA, not as prety works well
3) Neat little unit that plugs into a scart socket for the kitchen LCD, medium price £50, seems to like being power cycled occasionally other than that works well.

In short I beleive there are only one or two manufacturers of the decoder units that make up the majority of the functionality of the box threrefore you are paying for name and style

If you have home cinema check the connections are compatible between the box and the cinema decoder as some programms are transmitted with good sound

I got the Duraband one from Asda too for under £20 and am really happy with that. Works just fine and means i get to see the Canada GP qualifying on ITV4 at 5:30pm. Best £20 i spent in a very long time.

My only piece of advice would be to go for one with a 7 day epg (electronic program guide) It is like sky guide on freeview and saves buying tv books/guides ect.

Make sure you can get a signal in your area, I have one and at times ,like now when the weather is wrong I cant get a signal on channel 5 and many other channels.

Just bought a new one this afternoon (kids smashed the remote control on the last one )

Philips one (link) from Tesco's with the 7 day guide. Plugged in, told it the tv was widescreen and it tuned itself in automagically.

Picture seems a little better than the last one and changes channel a little quicker (the achilles heel of digital compared with analogue).
