Jaguar and land rover
speedyxjs - 12/6/07 at 04:07 PM

I know Ford are still denying it (at least they were at 12 o'clock on the jeremy vine show) but does anyone here have the money to buy Jaguar and Land Rover?
I know, wishfull thinking. I just hope Jaguar don't end up like MG Rover.

Why, are you trying to scrape some cash together for it? I could probably stick in a tenner....

I think it will probably depend on whether Ford lump the two together - people will want LR, but they may be less keen on Jag. Would make sense for them both to be together, as the new Disco uses Jag engines IIRC.

Jag and LR (and Aston too) will go the same way as MG Rover - decent cars until they need to update them again, and the Ford Mo Co money isn't there to develop them.

Quality will be down and sales will dry up.

Jaguar is not making any money with the X type. The yearly number of X types is supposed to be 180,000 a year but at the moment they are only building 300 a week! Nobody wants one.

The new Landrover is being built in the Halewood (JLR) plant alongside it so makes up for the crap X type. After all its just a Mondeo and Ford have stopped making that one!

The Landrover makes the plant worth buying...

Personally I do hope it ends up like Longbridge....

last year for every x type sold it lost jag £1000, they give away silly amounts on good will, up to £1,000000 in 3mths, a customer complained about his rear bumper bracket been broken on a 7 year old xj8 & they paid for the complete bumper beam & brackets to be replaced at no cost to the customer, about £400
Try that at any other dealer!
