Not sure I should admit to this but....

I need to tow a caravan to france this summer, been looking on the web for a good campsite and cheap crossings but there's that many websites it's confusing!

Anyone got any recommendations?

I live in northern France.

Try all the company sites - speedferries, P&O, Sea France, Eurotunnel and Norfolk line.

You have to try each one as the prices are always changing.

In December Sea France was the cheapest, February it was Norfolk Line, and in July it's P&O.

And, it's always cheaper to travel mid week.

The last time I took over a huge trailer Norfolk Line were the cheapest.

Portsmouth Cherbourg - dearer than Dover Calais, but a better door into France.

How far do you wanna go down?

Coast or inland?

The Vendee (next area down after Britanny) is gorgeous.

Speedferries is usually the cheapest by far. For cars at least.

Probably Brittany, but would try further south.

I'd prefer the coast, but so long as there's a pool for the kids it doesn't matter.

I know a Busa's got some grunt, but I don't think it'll pull very well with a caravan on the back

Speedferries are pretty good, used them the past few years, quick crossing and reasonable prices.
We're going all the way to the med again this year although Brittany is nice as well.

Used norforkline 3 times.

A bit no frills as its mainly freight but always beem spot on for me.

Depends how many people you're taking - the ferries will charge you per vehicle + per person - Eurotunnel charge per vehicle and that's it. Crossing's quicker and no seasick kids either.....

They also have more crossings, so it's easier to get an off-peak one cheaper.

I've done the Dover to Calais run 9 times this year, and it's always been a toss up between P&O and Sea France, prefere Sea France, especially if it's on the Rodin, as this is a new ship and is very nice.

Makes the P&O ones look grubby.

Speedferries don't allow caravans IIRC.

Lots of good info on ukcampsite.co.uk.

I'll second the Vendee, but we're heading further south to Bordeaux this year.

Anyone been to Benodet in Brittany?

Yello vilage Guilvenac near Benoda.
Excellent pool, club house, 47 steps to the beach which is huge.
Village 15 mins walk or get the road train.
little restaurant on site and take aways aswell, good showers etc.
i have been 3 years running with my large clan.
Traveled Plymouth to Roscof then 2 1/2 hours to site but the journey home is a bu%%er so now do portsmouth St Malo 4 hrs, i push the boat out and go overnight with a cabin.
Yello will give you extra days to suit you journey and you can book direct to save a bit.
