I took this Distributor cap and rotor arm off a Land Rover Freelander today and got a surprise at the state of it
The car had a very slight
missfire when you pulled away but ran fine. I could hear a spark from the cap and thought it might be cracked but as you can see its a bit worse than
that. This is the second cap i have seen like this in the past week but thats the worst rotor arm i have ever seen. Its maybe worth checking if your
car has a distributor as there is no reason to take the cap off with electronic ignition.

I would've said your assessment was incorrect looking at the state of that cap![]()
TGR-ECOSSE - 25/6/07 at 10:46 AMSorry should have said no serviceable reason to check cap.
britishtrident - 25/6/07 at 11:46 AMWith K series engines it pays gap the plugs to 0.032" (0.8mm) that was originally specfied by Rover at the time the engine was introduced instead of the wider 0.40" (1.0mm) that Rover recommended from the mid 1990s on.
As the plugs age the wider gap causes all sorts of HT arcing problems and low speed misfires.
Rover also specified a 60,000 mile plug change interval when they changed to platinum --- I generally advise changing the plugs at or before 30,000 miles.
Later engines than yours have a coil pack ignition which can easlily be damaged by HT problems.
