If so can you please tell me the valuation for a Jaguar S-type 2001 4.0 SE please. My father's hass just been written off by some bint running into the back off him at a set off lights.
The insurance are saying they will only pay the glass's guide price but we dont have a copy of it to verify the valuation.

If your father liked it and wants to replace it, tell the insurance company to supply a like for like car.

Point out the underlying principle of insurance that you shall be no worse off than before the accident!

i suspect brooky is after the glass's guide which is a trade guide for car prices. you can get them off ebay. the guides you've shown are 'retail' (ie joe public) guides.

Hy father has asked for a direct replacement off the insurance, but unfortunately - there arent any for sale with the exact spec he had (sunroof, CATS suspension and in burgundy. it has GOT to be in burgundy. The fussy sod.)

Forget glasses guide.
He wants retail prices, ie what it will cost him to replace the car.
Find examples of similar cars on autotrader and then haggle with the ins co.

They'll try and go for a price that you can't buy the car for, keep pushing and they will go up.

Ages ago i was told something similar by insurance company. They were good with me in that they paid out an interim amount to get me mobile again while we haggled on the true valuation. i provided a few autotrader print outs and we settled on a reasonable market cost.

Mark Allanson has probs more experience of this type of thing than most of us - hopefully he will be able to advise a good course of action.


Interestingly i had a bump in a BMW 535i sport some time ago. For some reason they were going to repair it up after assuming it was an M5! I didnt want it repairing so had to argue the other way with them. Im my experience insurance companies are quite fair if you discuss reasonable logic with them.
