Hi Guys,
I have had a new hard drive put in my computer, just put ipod software back on and its scanned the computer for music, found the music and in the ipod software, i now have two of every song ??
I dont want to connect the ipod incase it doubles it all up....
Is there anyway i can delete the music in itunes and just download everything from my ipod so they both tall up ?
Same thing happened to my 11 year old nephew and we ended up wiping all the music from ipod and having to start all over again, ive got about 5gig on mine and it will take forever to start from scratch.

this is exactly what i hate about ipods, nosy bloody devices that try to to things their own way. I just use my phone now. No help there, sorry!

Sounds like you have a different location for the iPod music (maybe an MP3 folder). When you install iTunes it searches for music to place into it's own folder without deleting the orginal. Therefore you have two copies of the same files. The problem is generally caused by not understanding how iPod/iTunes works.

Delete one or the other - this will sort it out.

Personally I find it best to redefine the iPod default directory using the manual method - this avoids what you describe.

iPod and iTunes are much easier than most IMO.

There is a program to enable you to download from your iPod onto your computer - however it only works with iTunes. The reason for automatically overwiting everything when you plug in the iPod is the syncronising settigns. You need to change the settings to only update new, or selected songs. That shoudl stop it erasing everything else.

Open iTunes, Click on View and then Show duplicates. You can then deletr the duplicated tracks

or find where the tracks actually are on your hard drive and delete them if outside the iTunes folder.

To upload from your iPod you can use a prog called ipod2pc
