Black 'n' smelly smoke which quickly dissappears - no worries.

Scared the life out of me, on the very first trip out in the car - driving along, generally worrying whether the car was OK, and suddenly a load of smoke came out from under the bonnet!

Ended up on the verge with the bonnet off, trying to work out what it was. Of course, by that time, it had stopped smoking...

Unless you wrapped it with old tea towels.

Pat...

Smells either like popcorn or baking cookies depending on your brand of exhaust wrap....

Yep cures it with the heat cycle and will smoke again if you give a good thrashing!

Yep loads of it. My SVA examiner explained through the haze that this was one of the reasons they liked people to drive their cars to test

That made me chuckle

Have heard about it rusting mild steel manifolds though?? Is that true or just one of those rumours??

True, as it traps moisture in the wrap which combined with the heat leads to rapid oxidation.

Its also good at cracking cast iron manifolds...

My old SD1 manifolds were ok with wrapping, though it was only on for 10 months - I now have some nice shiny stainless jobbies that I'll be wrapping
