i hope its not homemade!

Is the stock prop really made of ally?

blakep82 - 9/8/07 at 07:19 AM

ford aerostar ones seem to be made of ally and plastic, and thats on a van

Hi a mates MOT station had a Renault 4x4 espase in with a bad vibrating prop. Turned out it was carbon fibre fitted as std. According to the Renault dealer.

cheers matt

A bloke brought a carbon fibre GSXR750 back wheel into the local bike shop to have a slick fitted. He was desperate as no-one would touch it and he was racing next day. They did it on the terms that if anything went wrong it was not their fault and he O.K'd it. It was a bit tense when the fingers on the tyre machine grabbed the rim but it went alright and he paid £20 when the usual rate is £5 if you bring your own tyre and a bare rim. It was unbelievable how light the rim was.

Am I missing something here? The ad claims up to 5% more horsepower. I can see how a lighter prop might improve revs, but horsepower??

DIY Si - 9/8/07 at 09:14 AM

It says it'll increase wheel hp, not that at the crank. IE it'll transmit more/won't lose as much as a standard prop. Bit dubious, but there may be a bhp or two in it.

i don't know anything about the prop but if you were to increase revs you do usually incread bhp as bhp is a product of torque and RPM

If its anything like the renault scenic 4x4 prop (also CF), it will have the lifespan of a cabbage white!
