Check it's a chute and not some kid's rucksack with his lunch in it, he might be trying to save on redundancy

Tried to do a skydiving jump whilst in the forces but it got called off right at the last minuyte as we were sat in the plane ready to go because of the foot and mouth thing, in case we landed elsewhere. Anyway during drills there was summat not quite right to me so I left the chute with one of the trainers and went for break. When I came back and asked he said oh yes for some reason you were given a freefall instead of a static line!Eeek! And then to top it off he said struggled to remove the handle thing and showed it me all twisted and had to boot the thing up and down the hall as the chute wouldn't come out!EEeeekk! I think the law of averages states that you can only get away with a few jumps before summat goes wrong in the same way as building our cars, try as best but summat'll go wrong somewhere along the line!

I work with an ex forces guy.

He was telling me about HALO jumps.

No way. Just no way

Aboardman - 18/8/07 at 09:12 AM

do it

omega 24 v6 - 18/8/07 at 09:35 AM

DO IT but be aware that your probably not going to be covered by any insurance policy you have at the moment.

I've never done it but I always wondered if I could?? Costs are to high (financially) to justify it but if I was offered i'd go for it just to see how strong my mind was.

Go for it, most dangerous part of the day is driving to the airhead! Have done about 100 jumps, some I payed for, most courtesy of HM Government into water!

Ooh, I thought is was considered quite risky to drop into water, for fear of getting wrapped in your own chute!
As for HALO jumps, you have to a be a right nutter to do them from what I've been told about them! High Altitude Low Opening, in case people where wondering. IE, jump from space with a tent on your back, then deploy said tent at about 3ft.

At least you can't break anything (too much) hitting water! You jettison one of the two 'risers' holding you to the parachute as your legs touch the water, then the other one ASAP after that. Only real problem is if there is no wind, then the canopy can fall on your head - which is bad!

I have friends that regularly talk about their 'mals'.

A 'mal' is skydive speak for a F@*CKED-UP jump, and I tell you what - it put me off for life even though deep down inside I'd love to do it.

I did a couple years ago with a group from work.......

The 1st one was fine I was 3rd guy out, the second one I was last with no "friends" to gee me on it took a couple of false starts before I went.

Great fun though, scared the xxxx out of me till the chute opened which was milliseconds but felt like a week.

Would I do it again ? Maybe.
