Just been reading the BMW mag about the new M3. Its getting a V8 420HP motor. The lightweight version was quoted as 3.8Kg / Hp - not seen it wrote
like that before.
By my calcs this makes it 1596Kg, 420HP, 3.8Kg / Hp or 263Hp / Ton, 0-60 in 4.8secs. Should be an entertaining drive!!
My old M3 Evo was 1480Kg, 321bhp, 4.6Kg / Hp or 217Hp/Ton, 0-60 in 5.5secs.
im chasing 140Hp, my car is approx 580Kg = 4.1Kg/Hp or 241Hp/Ton so that compares well to a known good car. Might take some mods of the transmission
to make the acceleration times compare though.
How do these figures compare to others with Pinto power (or other set ups for that matter?)
Hi Darren, I think kg/hp is the American way of writing it. It doesn't seem as intuitive to me but I guess it just depends what you're used
to.
Either way, your estimate of around 5-5.5 seconds sounds about right to me; I had a standard pinto (105ish bhp), and my car was I think 620kg, and I
timed it at about 6 seconds to 60 (with a passenger too), so with an extra 35-40bhp I should think you'll easily knock half a second or so off
that. Plus it feels a lot faster with the wind in your hair!

You could quite easily assume my car is stunningly quick off the line. Though in reality with an open diff and a 150BHP rated clutch I have to be
careful with quick launches. The in gear acceleration is however rather bloody good
