I once had a rented Fiesta 950 up to 125mph on the big downhill stretch of the M1 between junction 37 - 36.

All hire cars have done this.

I'd get an inspection if I was you!

cheers

Chris

You jest, right ?

Not a great idea.

Go into any main Dealer and ask for a 1 year old 1 owner car with about 10K on the clock. That's what your local Arnold or Reg will sell you.

I've done it.

I would not do it again.

Ex Rental = drive it like you stole it.

Ex Lease is a different thing. That's a far better idea. One driver, services and tyres and repairs when needed.

No no no, drive it like you stole it = 5 under the speed limit and using your indicators; drive it like you *rented* it.

These people aren't kidding - I did my work experiance at a local rental companies workshops when they were still renting out 1300 Endura powered Festers. Had two come in in the same week, one that had thrown a rod, and another with a knocking bottom end...

Ex lease isn't usually a whole poo load better either sadly. The 'owner' drives the knackers off it knowing that someone else picks up the servicing and repair costs. Mates daughter once got a Xantia pool car with a knackered clutch and four racing slicks when she does 60k a year...

That'll be pool cars though Dave.

In my admittedly limited experience of running leased cars, we picked them ourselves as if we were buying them and had them serviced and repaired to a level we could never afford personally.

Pool car bad.
Single driver personal leased car - waaaaay better.

Thay usually get sent to auction, check out BCA or Manheim. But not all are open to public on all days, so you may not actually get to see ex-lease cars on the day you are there. Best bet is to find a local car trader, get friendly with them and then go with them to the auction. There are some real bargains to be had.

If you can get to see them direct, before they are valeted you will have a better idea of whether they have been abused or not. If you know someone who has a lease car you like you can ask them to get you a price when it runs out but they are not that cheap.

Not that it helps but Hertz sell their cars off in the UK to public.

As others have said I'd be a little cautious but you could end up with something you're very happy with!
