I have just bought a bmw 740, 1993 model, and just wondering whether it needs the cats or not for the mot?
93 is the changeover year isn't it, but I don't know whether it was jan or aug 93!!??
The car is 93 K so its reg pre aug 93.
cheers
Nat
Is this you or your bro?
Cause it raises the question what you doing with the sierra?
(ie can i have first dibs)
and hows your bro's capri coming along?
(oh, i thought it was 92 for cat but some cars got exemptions (ie the rover mini))
Nat, seems to be a grey area.
In theory if it's 93 registered and was designed to be fitted with a cat then it can be failed for not having one. This happened to our S13
Nissan.
However some testers (ones with some common sense) check the emmissions and pass de-catted cars if they are within the limits.
Suppose it's a case of suck it and see.
Cheers, Pewe.
aug 1st 1992 K reg was original date for cat tests hope this helps
your test station will have a book which covers any odd ball cars made after aug 92 which are still exempt, but i think yours will need a cat test as
it isnt in my in service emmisions book

Davey D rot my boots wish we'd known that at the time. The plonkers insisted we fit a cat which we did but a no little expense! We'll know
for the next time. Ta, Pewe

)and have been in the SXOC (SX Owners Club) for
that amount of time, so ive seen it brought up many times on the forum
people had even got to the stage of having to demand that the MOT testers
make a phone call to to Vosa, or who ever controls it so that they can prove the car doesnt need a cat. The S14 is listed in there as needing a cat.
it is the stupid mot tester claiming that the S13 is the same... which is very much not the case
