Boat engine remapping

Hey guys, just going to take the motor sport minds to water for a second.

A mate of mine does racing and wanted some help with getting the most power out of his engine.

He's running a mecury optimax 2.5 v6 out board with motorola ecu.

Basically he wants somone to remap or chip it to get the maximum 250 hp out the engine ( only got 170 at the mo ) and hes willing to pay a few bucks for it as well!

Does anybody know of any places in the uk that remap boat engines or is anybody familiar with this system themselves?

thanks,

Nath

with all the best will in the world a remap on a non turbo will not release 80bhp or 45% more power.
If he is not carfull he could loose torque at the correct revs for the prop

it can be done because the ecu hes got doesnt do the engine any justice at all, hes been talking to his competitors and theyve got the same engine but a hell of alot more power. any one ever heard of motorola being used in an ecu application?

It may be that (like a lot of modern car engines) exactly the same hardware is used for various different power output engines just by depowering in the software. I think this has been common with outboards for years, even on carbed engines.

You will almost certainly have to change the prop as I imagine you will end up running at higher RPM to get the extra power and so will probably require a lower pitch.

I say stick a megasquirt on it and do the mapping yourself. Easy!
