In a paper yesterday they implied it was illegal to remove a clamp, maybe cos you avoid the fine. Cant see why.

Anyone know why wheelclamps don't count as tampering with a vehicle?

I would suspect it comes down to who's levying the fine on you. A council may be legally in their rights to extract money whereas a private (clamping cowboy type) outfit isn't.
Therefore removing a cowboy's clamp maybe perfectly ok but not so the case with an official body.
If you damage the clamp of course it's a different matter...

News to me if its illegal in our neck of the woods, trust me we have the plonkers here too. Wonder how long before AGM is up to his neck in poo, now if we could get a nationwide underground assasination squad up and running on speed cameras.
