The work so far

Got to a good point today with painting the chassis in black Rustolium. Removed all the steel panels (sorry Mr C, Rod!) and cleaned an painted the chassis sides and underneith.

So we have gone from this:

Not a great pic, i'll try and do a better one at night with the flash.

Ally is ordered and when the floor is on it will be turned over, a little more welding done and then paint the top parts of the chassis.

Did you brush or spray it with the Rustoleum?

donut - 20/9/07 at 01:15 PM

Used a mini roller, really quick. Using a brush to get into the tight corners but the paint is like tracle and really sticky which i guess is why it's so good.

SyKaTurbo - 20/9/07 at 01:17 PM

Yeah, just done mine with a brush. Nice shiney finish to it but got some bits and rust in it but felt all the better for doing it myself. Massive improvment though to the before pic!

Looking good!

Is Rustoleum better than Hammerite? Does it go straight on to bare metal?

Deckman001 - 20/9/07 at 09:13 PM

I was going to tell you to put up some pics, glad I didn't waste the txt now !!
Don't forget to paint the bones and arms

Do you have to do much surface prep, or does this stuff just go on top of the surface rust?

donut - 20/9/07 at 10:14 PM

I did a fair deal of research for rustolium and the general thought is that you can paint it on just about anything with no prep apart from removing oil and grease. I wiped my chassis down with panel wipe to get rid of the contaminates.

Rustolium can be watered down with white spirit so it can be sprayed and takes 12hrs to dry so you can repaint the next coat.

I was going to paint a mini in old english white with black roof but never got round to finishing the car so i have a big tin of OE white paint in the garage which could be used on the fiberglass hmmmmmm

Yes Jason i did the bones!!
