Why do American's feel the need to put their flag on absolutely everything? (except their rucksacks when their travelling around the world where
for some reason they choose the Canadian flag 
- a source of much amusment/irritation for Canadians when I lived out there)

They put their flag on everything so they all remember what country they're in, rather than where they came from (eg Irish American, Italian
American, Scottish American, French American).
Not like over here where you are English, Scottish, Welsh etc (or if you're a lip wristed liberal, British!).
