How to buy and import a domesticated elephant?
Jon Ison - 11/10/07 at 07:35 PM

Does anyone know how you would go about acquiring and importing some domesticated elephants from I would guess India, Sri Lanka or Thailand ? I have googled the subject and I guess its a bit esoteric even for Google to find. I am not even sure whether you would transport them by ship or plane?

Once it is in the UK you would need a Dangerous Animal license which also includes other animals such as tigers, lions, ostrich etc. More info here

Are you fed up of the horses now Jon? Get some more chickens, at least they lay eggs. I've heard elephant dung is good for gardens though, is that your plan?

rusty nuts - 11/10/07 at 08:20 PM

You could always get it sent by JUMBO jet!! Well someone was bound to suggest it.

RazMan - 11/10/07 at 08:21 PM

A horse might be easier Jon .... but they don't give as much manure for the roses

whitestu - 11/10/07 at 08:29 PM

Get a baby one - the shipping costs would be a lot less.

Shipping it is the easiest way, just get it packaged in a large trunk

Well,
you could always hide it in the fridge...unless, of course, Customs inspect the trifle for footprints!

The list is out of date, the wife isn't on it.

Avoneer - 11/10/07 at 10:49 PM

Jon, If I stay at my aunts before Rockingham on Saturday, I can ask as she used to import and quarantine almost all of the animals supplied to the zoos and safari parks at one time.

I don't think that elephants are easy to domesticate - they just won't use the litter box, and cleaning it out is a nightmare anyway...

fesycresy - 12/10/07 at 07:51 AM

Can you eat elephants ?

DarrenW - 12/10/07 at 08:11 AM

Is Palomatic thinking about introducing a new line of Organic Material Handling????????

DaveFJ - 12/10/07 at 09:54 AM

Would you need to pad the tusks for SVA?

Easier to fit them after the test.

DaveFJ - 12/10/07 at 10:14 AM

The question i really want answering is this:

Should the poly bushes in a Mk1 Pachyderm be able to rotate on the spacer?

twybrow - 12/10/07 at 12:16 PM

Insurance is quite a problem. There is one company that specializes:
Elephant Insurance

Would you consider an African elephant? Or is the ear size crucial?
