Nice to see that the Vulcan Bomber has flown today for the fist time in many years

I saw what was supposed to be the last flight at RAF Marham, about 15 years ago.

Was standing underneath it after that flight, when they were changing the oil, (After every flight) it was dead clean!.. Would have stuck it in my car if I could have got it.

Most Vulcans were chopped up just for the main Wingspar which is made from titanium.

What a waste, they are the most graceful aricraft, and just bloody awesome when doing a tailstand!

I was told by the pilot, of an incident many years before when a couple of Yank fighters were doing a show off, and buzzed a tower control, by doing a tail stand on it o:

A few days later, their station got a visit from a vulcan, returning the "favour".

Rattled the sh*ite out of the building!

Still glad to see one flying. a lovely piece of british engineering and design.. rates alongside the spitfire IMHO.

I sat in the cockpit of this one a few years ago. I was suprised how little room there was in it for such a big plane.

I saw a few fly years ago at airshows when I was a kid and would love to see it again.

Semi interesting factoid, only the pilot and co-pilot got ejector seats, the rest of the crew...

One crashed near us when I was at school we all heard it go over but only the naughty kids who wer outside got to see it!

I was lucky enough to be at Bruntinghtorpe this morning and see this amazing aircraft take to the skies again. What an awesome sight it is. You will never hear horsepower like it anywhere else. She was in flight for 30 minutes over towards the east coast before returning and doing a fly past circuit. Then she landed back at Bruntingthorpe. No doubt it will be on the news tonight as the likes of Sky News and ITV were all there.

Anybody see the documentary on the V bombers when they interviewed the old pilots from the cold war days. Bloody frightening what they were trained to expect, and do, if they were ever sent on a mission.

There's one by my flying club at Southend, they run it up & down the runway once in a while but it doesn't fly anymore.
I wanted to get a pic of my car next to it, but unfortunately it's the wrong side of the perimeter fence!

It flew over my works at Corby today, a workmate called me on my dect phone and told me to get out and look , I was to late and missed it and didnt believe him as i hadnt seen any advance info that it would be flying today.

fantastic just found video on the bbc news 24 site looks great cant wait to see it again at airshows even through the last time i saw it was at finingley 1992 when i was 6 i still remember it

thats great, remember seeing documentory on sky recently about how much effort went into restoring it. IIRC they bought from the RAF in ?1987? for £25k but it has taken until now and thousands of hours of volunteers and lottery millions and when the whole thing ground to a halt in 97 a small fortune left in a will from some old WW" fighter pilot to get the project going. One of my customers at work was the chief designer at woodford BAE and tells me that once it gets its worthiness certificate it will fly for 10 years and then need another multi million £££ overhaul. again IIRC the £25k included 2 RAF men for 2 years and every spare part they had and all the instruction booklets and tooling etc the lot.....

Currently reading Squadron 607 which is about the Vulcans bombing raid on the Falklands Islands and the massive task they faced having to refuel them inflight many times.

Good book, about halfway through, good build up so far and has taught me alot about the Falklands which I knew very little about. Written like a typical modern war book (Clancy, Ryan etc..) but all factual.

Havent finished yet though, so dont spoil the ending!
