ebay scam?
richard thomas - 19/10/07 at 04:15 PM

Hi all,

Won some turbo kit on ebay, have received email regarding payment and collection...

''I am not home for one mounth because now I am in Wylam with bussiness and wife and the kids are alone and I would be concerned having a stranger picking-up the item at my home. My wife will complete the delivery as soon as payment it's confirmed....here i can't use other service ... Did you received the invoice from eBay? because in the invoice you have all the steps to make the payment.''

Sound suspicious??

Rich.

Look at his minus one feedback...

Always use Paypal with a credit card - you have some protection then if it doesn't turn up.

Any other payment method - (unless the guy takes credit cards) is unsafe.

If you send him a cheque (say) and he doesn't send the kit then you have very little comeback except taking him to court.

If I bid for something where the seller won't take paypal then I arrange how the payment /collection is going to be done before bidding.

Just my 2p worth

Cheers

Mark

edit - DO NOT SEND THIS GUY ANY MONEY!!!!!

Tell him you'll pay him small deposit, say £20, then cash on collection, as said above when he comes home. Paypal only provide protection up to the value of £500, i know this cus i got caught once. Becareful!

Me - not with a ten foot bargepole - "forged ebay invoice" says it all!
But if you must - arrange cash on collection only.
For that sort of money you want to check it out before paying for it anyway. Would you buy a car for a grand without checking it out first? I think not.
Cheers, Pewe

Rat, fish or duck - you shouldn't part with any cash until you can't smell any of 'em

scam...................

MikeRJ - 19/10/07 at 05:36 PM

Has all the hallmarks of the common or garden eBay scam:

1) Poor english
2) Excuse about being out of the country
3) Advice to follow instructions in eBay invoice

Peteff - 19/10/07 at 06:03 PM

That is most likely a copy and paste of a genuine item that was sold on ebay a while ago. Send his email to ebay and ask them to sort it out for you.

Confused but excited. - 19/10/07 at 06:29 PM

Only has a negative feedback of -1, for a previous scam and you have to ask?

It was a bit tongue in cheek to be honest - I'd already been in touch with the fella that gave the negative feedback - same story, seller wouldn't accept cash. He has reported him to ebay, as have I.

It's a pity because i could really do with this stuff....wish I'd seen the original auction, if that's what he's copied.

My brother lives in Wylam. Tell him to take it with him and I'll get my bro to pick it up for you?

You will probably only get another excuse

It's me that left the original negative feedback for this item as it is clearly a scam. I was really disappointed as it was a cracking bunch of kit.
This is the second scam I've been caught out in this week. Another guy was selling a whole bunch of hayabusa stuff with quaife transmision. Then said he had moved to the Orkneys and it couldn't be collected.
If only these bastards put as much effort into holding down a regular job!
