OT HID bike lamps
02GF74 - 2/11/07 at 11:01 AM

Anyone recommend some HID lamps for a mountain bike that do not cost the earth? (~ £ 100)

Or what about these high power LED lamps?

Are they really up to throwing out 20 W???

K2 leds are bright and have a good even spread of light I have 4 on my bike running off a 12v 3 cell lipo fron my rc helicopter. I can ride in the woods at night fine. here is a link to some torches on ebay that have k2 leds in if you fancy having a go at making some lights your self? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ultrafire-K2-LUXEON-LED-HAIII-Tactical-Flashlight-Torch_W0QQitemZ220166438078QQihZ012QQcategoryZ16037QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcm dZViewItem Halfords have bike lights with one of these leds in and they are £50 ouch!

Wow westcost, you have been busy. I have been considering making some using a Lipo battery myself, just seem to struggle to find the time. Have just fitted some cheapo electrons 5/15W, which do the job. Came across some other chaps out last night with some really bright lights on their helmets unbeleivable how bright they are.

I nearly made some kid (hoody) fall of his bmx a couple of weeks ago I was riding towards him and obviously blinded him as he was wobbled past me shielding his eyes lol (he didn’t have any lights idiot ) told him he wanted to get some of these lol
02GF74 Diagram in photo archive of wiring i have 2 of the torches new for this winter and 2 leds i had made up with lenses from www.l2optics.co.uk ( this was when they first came out last year was pain getting hold of them at first) had to get the leds from the us and they were £10 each
they may of had something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RAYOVAC-Head-Lamp-Torch-Flash-Light-Bike-K2-Luxeon-LED_W0QQitemZ160144824229QQihZ006QQcategoryZ106984QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcm dZViewItem

Just read some of the threads. I might have to upgrade my skills from crimp connectors though.

Am I right in thinking that 1000+ lumens is now common on some bike systems, is this a case of overkill.
