In an effort to be "locost" I bought and installed a 2nd hand towbar on my company car
04 plate Audi A4.
Works great but I haven't wired up any electrics becuase I haven't a clue about that sort of thing.
Can anyone comment on possible prices just for the electric install to be carried out? and where I might go?
If its reasonable I'll get it done... if not I'll wait, becuase I'm due a new car in May next year and will just get it factory
fitted.
Thanks in advance!
Depending on the age of you A4, the rear lamps will have connections already fitted for you, just a case of attaching 5.5mm lucar connectors to your loom or buy the pre wired audi loom and just plug in.
mmm. I'm not so sure on that one Mark.
I've had many Audis and they cause problems due to the "Autocheck" computer which monitors bulb currents to report failures.
I do agree that some models do have the connectors but just adding wires will cause bulb failure indications on the dash.
Very much newer models have multiplex/CAN bus wiring to the rear lights which cause even more problems.
I believe even the Audi looms use bypass relays to fool the system. I'm looking at fitting electrics for a towbar to my A6 at the moment.
All the kits I can find have 7 way smart bypass relays.
Dangle - I would find a competent towbar installer in your area, preferably from recommendation and pay them to do the job for you. They'll have
the inside knowledge on the model hopefully. The main stealer looms should be made from gold wire the amount they cost!!!
Cheers

Many of the later cars have electronics that will cater for trailer electrics nowadays. I was amazed how simple it was to connect to my (relatively old) BMW 3 series. It was just a matter of buying a mini-loom from a main dealer and finding the connector in the boot.
Try www.towsure.com they do wiring harnesses for lots of makes/models which hook straight into the manufacturers loom plus their tech. back-up is
good.
