Sounds like a great day to buy fuel. The queues at my local station are allways long. Maybe on Monday I can get straight in.

" Because of the HUGE revenues generated by fuel, the tax is paid DAILY. Just one day of action will seriously hit Government cash flow!"

errrr yeah right!! I'm sure the government are quaking in their boots and the nations finances are about to come crashing to the ground. Somehow i dont think it will make the slightest bit of difference to either when or how much tax is paid!! They are gonna have to come up with something better than this if this stupid government are going to take notice.

Of whom 19 million will be duplicates

iank - 16/11/07 at 10:52 AM

It's completely naive, the only way for it ever to work is for people not to drive and therefore not actually use the fuel. Boycotting for a day just means the tax revenue for the day before and the day after are greater. At the most you'll just manage to p*ss off a civil servant who'll need to explain a tiny wiggle in his spreadsheet.

so they get double the tax on the following day as those people who didn't buy fuel on Monday buy on Tuesday instead.

or am I missing something here?

ash_hammond - 16/11/07 at 10:54 AM

I am missing the point on this?

<soapbox>
They are asking us to not buy fuel on one day, but it is still OK to drive. Therefore, we are still using the fuel we have already purchased. That means when we do eventually fill up will be buying more fuel than normal and paying to the tax on the fuel. In the end the government win because they get their money, may be one or two days late but they get it non the less.

wo

wo

wo!

I want cheap fuel like the next man, but even I have my limits.

Best way to do it is has been said before - PICK ON 1 or 2 PETROL COMPANIES!

That way you get the fuel, the two companies effected has a massive sales drop for the next few months and therefore THEY lobby the government. BP has been suggested and seeing as they are british I think they will have the most clout with the government. Unless anyone knows if any of G.W Bush's fuel companies in the UK we can target?- he has more clout in the UK than he does in the US According to our "hard headed internationist" PM.....

this country stand up for itself! hehe!!!!

pjavon - 16/11/07 at 07:06 PM

I think the idea is more to make a bit of a stand, now blocking the gates at stanlow is an act of terrorism, what else can be done.
As said it won't make any difference to the economy but may show peoples disgust at the silly taxes we all have to pay.
If people can't do a small thing like not buy petrol for one day to show there feelings the price hikes will keep coming.
This is a country of moaning people, instead of doing people unfortunately which is why were in such a state now
That my view anyway
Roll on the revolution

The problem is not how much TAX they need, it's how much TAX they waste.

Just look at our MP's expenses accounts for a start!
We need to stop the extreem greed at the top!!!!

Top tip to save money.

Send the unemployed to the local Tip so sort our rubbish for recyling.

Dazza - 16/11/07 at 10:55 PM

one day here, no, 1 company one day one the next, total rubbish.......

the only way is the way the french and a few other euro lovers did it. total gridlock and complaints etc. then the government have to wake up. its 80% tax, so they can bring the fuel price down over nite OF they wanted, but they wont, till some one, the entire UK did something about it......

but we wont as we are BRITISH!!!!! stiff upper lip bla bla......

untill the government are faced with total anarchy, they will just stuff us more every day and cream off what we pay at the pumps to fund there multi million pound holidays/mansions/cars etc etc,. stuff em. lets all walk. then there fucked......

owelly - 16/11/07 at 11:14 PM

I tried the "Boycott BP" thing when it was first posted a few months ago but he kept on breaking the windows with his cricket ball...........

Seriously, if everyone did stop using BP, then they would have to do something to get punters back to the forecourts. They would drop the price of fuel to make it 0.5p/ltr cheaper than the next one and everyone would think they had won. Then the other companies would match the price until we all forgot about it and the price would creep up!
