Short breaks
mookaloid - 21/11/07 at 04:51 PM

SWMBO keeps badgering me to take her on a short break somewhere - 3 to 4 days in between Christmas and New Year.

She says it hasn't to be in the UK - I say it has to be cheap

Suggestions please

Cheers

Mark

Maybe not so short but we did Teneriffe boxing day thru to New year a couple of years back, warm enough to sunbathe and see the new year in wearing shorts on the beach at midnight, wasn't ott for the money, went self catering as food over there is dirt cheap due to plenty of competition for your hard earned dosh.

Worth a thought.

If that is your wife in the avatar, she can stay with me providing she is good at ironing.

Are you saying you'd turn her away if she refuses to iron?

She could stay with me and i'd even iron her rather fetching bathing costume for her!!!

We went scuba diving in Sharm-El-Sheikh a couple of years back. I loved it, the combination of being mostly underwater in a muslim country meant christmas basically didn't happen that year

My in-laws flew out on Christmas day a few years back for a short break to Vegas

Best Christmas present I ever had

I went to Venice a few years back over New Years. Absolutely beautiful. Cold but bright, lots of nice bars to drink in.... Just book a place to eat if you're around on NYE in advance or they'll fleece you....

If you do go I heartily recommend Antica Mola just north of the ghetto. Really good food at a bargain price though for some reason I ordered the cheese and they brought me Almond Flan!! Very nice though And the vaperetto water taxis change the routes at 11pm on NYE but don't tell anyone Ended up navigating (on foot) all the way across Venice without a map to try and find St Marks square.... Did a proper job (unlike the next morning when I was hungover like a skunk and couldn't find my way out of my duvet)....

I'd go again tommorow!!!

swimbos off to lanzarote on sunday, £250 for a week all in!

Hi similar deal as above in Lanzarote got my vote last year.

Only thing i didn't realise was that they celebrated there new year two days after ours. Or was i still extremely drunk.

But the beach front firework display was amazing. Made the London display on the telly look like a back garden display.

Defiantly worth going for the short break. It releases all the pressure that christmas brings.

Cheers Matt

I enjoyed Prague a few weeks ago. Not as cheap as it once was, typical city break prices but very enjoyable. 2 days is probs enough - feet will be ready for chopping off by then Get off the beaten tourist track and prices are far more reasonable. Public transport to and from airport also great - very easy and dirt cheap.
