Datsun 260z - opinions
Jasper - 4/12/07 at 04:06 PM

I've always loved these cars, so would I be crazy to buy this lump of trouble?

Datsun

Apparently it's solid underneath and runs well.... would have to finish the Stylus first, but ...

I like it....I think that one has been available for sale for a while. Think I saw it on ebay a few months ago.

Nice

When I was a little kid I had a scalextric set with a 240z in it. It was great. I'm not sure you should spend your money based on my recommendation though!

I'd buy it. But then I'd turn it into one of these.

Better than an MR2 based replica. IMHO.

What about a nice 240Z?

ebay linky

Although at 10 times the price of the red one, unlikely to be a suitable donor for me or a prospect for you Jasper!

Cheers

have you been reading PPC mag by any chance ???

TGR-ECOSSE - 4/12/07 at 05:44 PM

I used to have a 1973 240z with wolfrace slotmag wheels like that one They are brilliant cars to drive but the biggest problem is rust. The inner wings and the front chassis legs are the worst. There is an owners club and plenty info on the web.
Ps I have 2 headlight surround thingys for a Datsun 280zx turbo still in the garage that could be exchanged for cash if you know anybody who might be interested.
Cheers

Had a 260Z in my early 20's in Bahrain. Great car, but riddled with rust.

Get one while you can afford to!

I had one as a teenager in Florida and it was a great car but cars don't rust there and it was more than 20 years ago. It is still my favorite of all the cars I have owned. Saying that these things can be real rust buckets. Have a look at what this guy has gone through.

Used to work on a 240z -- lovely smooth engine with Hitachi made SU carbs --- crap trim --- rust rust and more rust. Engine was more or less a 6 cylinder version of the 160B Bluebird

On the one I knew Front chassis legs & bottom inner wings as already mention ceased to exist after about 3 to 4 years on british roads. Parts were impossible to get, at that time UK Datsun importer only carried parts for the current & volume models.

All that and bad taste looks -- but the engine was a gem.

WOW, that's more air than floor!

A suggestion, perhaps:

When we lived in Kenya, one of my fathers friends used to compete in the East African Safari Rally in a 240z and I went for a spin round his garden in it (he was driving - I was 7). Father's boss also used to compete in same event (iirc in a Porsche, then Renault Alpine.

Bloody hell - that is absolutely GORGEOUS ......

DarrenW - 10/1/08 at 10:47 AM

That is simply stunning and a real credit to the owner / creator.

Looking at the underneath shows that it was probs a well used example as well rather than mint to start with. Unless the chassis rails were plated for strength reasons it looks lik a lot of time and effort has been made on the bits that will bever be seen.

A car like that wont be too out of place being made new now (shape wise i mean rather than that actual car). I really like the shape. My uncle had a 260Z when i was probs only 10 and i loved it even then.

Thanks for posting that Mike. Love it.
