One of these days I'll invent something someone hasn't already invented
Guess there are too many people on the planet thinking similar
thoughts (scary to think anyone has to put up with the thoughts I have!!!)
Came up with a wicked idea of using a two part (two-layer) paint system for the outside of a house which could double up as a solar panel to provide
energy for darkness.... Designed properly the two layers could even be turned into a basic storage system...
Only someone's come up with it already.... Crap....
Last time I invented this wicked way of getting intravenous medication into someone's heart without using a needle in the neck.... Worked out a
proper bit of kit- only to find most medics just stick the needle in the persons neck and don't bother with a "long line" as it appears
my invention is called!!!
Oh well, looks like fame and fortune will have to wait
Any other Locostbuilders invented anything clever (other than excuses for getting home late from the pub!!!)....
Not quite the same thing but i was an apprentice at a place that makes ratchet tensioners for curtain sided lorries, came up with an idea and asked if
i could make a prototype and they told me id be given a cut of the profits if it was sold, everyone thought it was great except the 2 bosses and they
wouldn't be interested in making it, i left shortly after then came back to the workshop a couple years later to see one of the lads i was
friends with and they were producing my design and it was very popular, every time i take a trip on a motorway i see loads of trucks with these on

I invented bottled water, alcohol free beer and bungalow dormers but thought "what idiot would use them, they'll never catch on ......"
More like a suggestion than invention..
In 2001 I emailed Ikea with details of a possible site in Belfast that would suit a new store....
(a friend told me they took suggestions like this on board)
Ikea came back and said that they wanted
to concentrate on Rep of Ireland first but thanks.
Ikeas new Belfast store opens next week.
Exactly where I told them.

I Have 4 Patents, for inventions I have had at work, sadly all jointly held with my employer, but it's still nice having the payouts and
knowledge i did it.

I have a patent held in mine and my bosses name. It hasn't made me any money directly, but it was an intersting process to go through.
robertst (and others) - beware of placing your ideas in the public domain (i.e. a web forum) as it would seriously compromise the originality,
patentability and ultimately revenue from the idea. If you're serious and have a good idea check out such things as prior art, design
registration, local and international patent laws etc. It's a complex subject and you need to use the system to protect your idea from the very
outset.
I invented the steam powered locomotive a few years ago but as usual that old scoundrel George Stephenson pinched my idea....

I think he pinched quite a few people's ideas
Like most things in history the people who became famous for the invention didn't really
invent it, they just because connected with the product!!!
To those of you getting paid for patents at work - well done. I've got 2 in my name (exclusive) and get bugger all for them even though 1 of them
is selling really well.
My contract of employment states any inventions belong to the company - no questions!!
It's still satisfying getting that letter from the patents office saying you're an inventor
I invented the extended seat tube on mountain, and I suppose road bikes.
It is far lighter/stronger to have a longer seat tube onto which the saddle fits than having a seat post whcih usually has some overlap inside the
seat tube. I wrote off to Saracen and didn't even get a reply. I notice my idea has appeared on last years TDF bikes.
