Following on from my disaster with the YAris I have decide that I will replace the engine then repair the old one in my own time and flog it. So I have used one of these websites that contacts a load of scrappies and then they call you.

Got an offer of an engine for £200 delivered with 36000 miles. I know he could be talking crap about the milage but what should I be asking him.

He says that it comes with the warranty if it does not work he will refund me or send me another engine.

Should I pay with a credit card or bank card.

I'd personnally want, the ECU, and engine loom, and all the ancilleries and belts, but without a strip and rebuild you can't be certain it'll turn and start.

mind you £200 is a good price if it has all the above.

I'd also like to know the history of the car it came from.

Ask him how long you have to fit it and try it out as well, I doubt if you'll get the ancillaries with it you certainly wouldn't from any of the scrapyards round here.

I have bought things like gearboxes, diff's etc from some of the on-line scrappys and only ever got top notch stuff. I think they just through away the junk and keep the best.

Don't pay by Cheque or any form of transfer or cash.

Only by credit card as you have insurance if it does not arrive, most bank cards dont offer this.
I lost £750.00 with a B@st@rd earlier this year, He did the same to almost 30 people and I think he got some time for it.
Try to find out why he got it, front end smash, fire etc.
If the model is identical you can use your ancilaries including ECU etc.

Try for some form of guarantee, but he proabably wont offer it unless your a garage or profesional mechanic.

Done with a company from called parts 4 u. Due to be delivered on Thursday.

What do you think I should check before installing. Simply a compression test and change the oil and filter? To be honest if it runs until feb I will just sell the car then.
