can anyone recomend a good website making software? I'm a novice and don't want to forkout for a £300 for dreamweaver.

Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 is a free product really good

if i design a site using that will it let me upload it to say lycos my hoster?

I used to use AOL press if you can find a copy on the net. Not much good now though if you want to use php, mySql or anything "modern".

Best thing to do is get notepad in the top half of the screen and IE in the bottom and there you have dreamweaver .

Use http://www.csszengarden.com/ to get some ideas on design.

WS-FTP is a free and easy to use uploading programme [FTP-File Transfer Protocol] you can get it from download.com

Thundersite is a doddle, as simple as word. Works out about £40 for the full program.

and click Learn Html its a short course and you learn how it goes together. programs tend to create reams of code and you never know whats really going on.
