Afternoon folks.

Due to a number of things stacking up, work being the main one, I am considering selling my kit car in an unfinished state. I haven't decided for sure yet, but it is looking increasinly likely that I will not have time to work on it for the next few years, and there is a distinct possibility of me going abroad to work too. Rather than leave it standing and collecting dust, I am thinking about selling it to fund a "toy" car that is already built, or already road legal.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any tips/pointers etc for selling part finished projects like this? Any good places to advertise it? Any good ways to maximise its value, or chances of selling?

I don't want to sell it if it means a lot of hassle, and perhaps more importantly, if I am going to lose a large portion of the money spent so far. I appreicate that I am going to lose out to a certain degree though.

Unfortunately i think its inevitable that the sale of a part built kit will result in a fairly substantial loss financially. I have just taken delivery here of a part built Tiger Supercat that i am completing for the owner. I would say there is around £5000 - £6000 worth of bits including new Weber twin carbs and a fully reconned Pinto - he was looking at around £2500 if he sold it to a friend of his. Works out much better for him to complete the car even with paying me a sum to do it.

I've been thinking about your problem and I have to agree that you are going to take a bit of a knock financially but, it is not all bad in my opinion. The Mojo is a very popular kit and I would have thought it will have a market and that it would be well worth offering on Pistonheads as a complete kit with extra parts. Certainly there are a number of Sylva cars on the Pistonheads site at the moment and they do sell on there.

It is a sad but true situation that the only kit cars (except perhaps Caterham) to fetch any serious money are Replicas. I know to the penny how much I have spent on the Phoenix and I know too what a small percentage I would recover if I chose to sell it. So, the financial knocks will be there whether a kit is sold as a complete car or a box of bits.

I narrowly missed out on a Mojo a while back on Pistonheads. It sold for a bit under three grand. That was fully built, road legal and had an injected Toyota 4A-GE.
