a random question, maybe.
but what capacity is it? i'm getting ever nearer the point where i'm gonna fire up the engine, so looking for a fuel tank. don't want
one too big, but then not too small either,
so what size is yours?
looked on ebay, there's plenty of 2 gallon tanks (10 litres) there's even a 7 litre one, which will be far too small. but what is a
reasonable size? I've got a space already in the chassis for a racing tank and its probably about 2-3 gallons, but there's space to mount a
second one.
could i then start with one tank for the build (so i'm not putting huge amoun s of fuel in just to reach the pickup pipe) and later if its too
small, install a second tank, joining up the 2 outlets with a T peice before te fuel pump?
this is for a carbed engine, if its any difference
What will be the primary use for your car?
I got sick of having a 100mile range so fitted a 50litre tank to my Fury.
I'm replying for Joe (Welderman) cos he's just turned up here!
His tank in is MK Indy is 47 Litres!!!
Steve
About 25 - 28 litres, for road use. I wish it could be bigger, but there's not enough space without major upheavals.
47 litre?! :O
i don't need that much!
primary use of the car will be around town mostly, down the back roads, and the odd trip to glasgow (30 miles away) and i rarely go further than
glasgow.
steve, what size of tank gave you 100 miles?
and david, thats an idea, start with a 15ltre tank (i don't put much more that about £10-£15 of fuel in my 2.8 tin top, so the 2litre pickup
should be a bit better on fuel) and then later i can add a 2nd 15litre tank, maybe with a tap on it so its like a reserve

PS Primary driver for upgrade was to be able to drive all the way to Le Mans without refuelling - means I can drive down anytime and not be restricted
to when the garages are manned.

Approx 25 litres in mine, gives about 130miles of fast road work.
I have got a really big one but I never get very far with it, know what I mean, ay, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

thanks everyone!
who is it from here that makes alloy tanks? need to get a few quotes i think.
20-25 ltr seems a start,
any comments on my ideas for adding a 2nd tank later?
www.AllyFab.co.uk are one of the best - will make tanks to your design, and will deal with any cock-ups in a professional manner (as I found when I
had a tiny leak).

i'll take some pics tomorrow and show you what i've got. I've just come in from the garage
there's a lot of space at the back, there is a (small) racing tank mount in the back welded into the chassis and it goes to almost half the width
of the car. what i don't want to ever do is cut anything out of the chassis, so the other half of the space is available for another tank,
although really the exhaust should be within inches of where the other tank is to go. I'd like a side exit exhaust in front of the rear wheel
though, so should be fine

PS Specs we sent to Bryn were as per the link below, but he works just as well on napkin measurements.

PS the proud idiot in the photos isn't me but the person who crawled underneath my car and actually took the measurements for me
