If you can't get upstairs you don't want to be building a Locost mate

i was wondering this the other day, since gran might need one soon. Feels like a diy job but at the same time not!

Trouble is, walking up the stairs is valuble exercise.

I remember in the long lost mists of time some plans to build one using a 12v winch like Land Rovers have and some pulleys and trunking. There must be something on the web somewhere. Here it is ! but use it with caution.

I've installed a second hand one for my Mum, and although it was working ok initially, it will no longer travel upwards. Electrics are like rocket science to me and I was hoping that someone here was an installer and could point me in the right direction.

Is there a sensor for the downwards position? Just wondering if this has been knocked out of line. Maybe the controller doesnt know its already down.

Assuming it has power etc and motor basically is still working. Oh and of course that it is on lowest position to start with.

I bet you have already tried to find instructions for it online. Is there a sequence to go through in case it has forgotten where it is. It could be in failsafe mode.

Has anyone been playing with it and overloaded it - again just wondering if the controller puts it in fail safe if that should happen and require a reset.



As you can tell im just guessing but i power wise its OK ill put money on it being a sensor or reset type fault.

The unit has loads of limit switches, but doesn't need to be down to go up. You can stop mid flight, and reverse direction. I'm sure there's a simple answer, but then so am I!
