
I have a toilet that continually fills and also leaks a bit from the bottom water inlet, so today i took it all apart and fixed all the leaks.
So far so good.
I can't however get the bottom entry Armitage Shanks filler valve to stop, i have replaced the valve rubber to no avail. lifting the float
manually has no effect.
It looks like it is some sort of pressure balancing system but i am no plumber so its all Greek to me.
The flush tube is 23cm high and the fill mechanism is 27cm to the top of the highest part so is never immersed in water, is this where the problem
lies, do i need a shorter fill mechanism?
Any help/advise please before i launch the whole lot out of the ensuite window

Have you got the ballcock arm the right way up? It should stop the water if you lift it by pushing the bit with the rubber seal back into the valve body, it doesn't need to be immersed in water.
It just sounds like the float float valve washer is split, if lifting the arm all the way up doesn't stop the water.
Turn off the water and unscrew the arm off and open up the valve, othen have a look at the condition rubber washer and either replace that or the
whole filling valve, they shouldn't be too expencive probably under a tenner.
Arm the right way up and new float valve washer instaled.
I think its because its a pressure balancing valve, still trying to find an exploded view to see if i have put it back right.
Could it be possible that you have a HP water supply and are using a LP valve?
Try gagging the isovalve to the cystern fill. If the HP is the problem, it should work for a few seconds until the pressure builds up again.

it sounds like a torbeck valve to me like you say pressure balancing you will need a new washer or if you have lost the balance pin a new valve if you have a pic of it dismantleed i will be able to help you more cheers rob
