I've passed it many times but never actually went there. I believe it has now closed

The Otter Sanctuary was on the A66 between Stainmore and Bowes on the dual carriageway....sorry can't tell you any more than that just seen the signs in the past when I've been over there. Hope that helps
Not sure if its still open though

A closure for the right reasons. In one way im pleased but i did enjoy my visit there 2 years ago or so.

Thorpe farm just after Barnard Castle is worth a visit. In winter its just a nice farm shop with nice cafe / restaurant, but they also have a bird of prey centre in warmer months. I went shortly after it opened, the bird range etc is superb and they were setting up some farm animals to walk around, should be better this year.

A bit closer to Scotch Corner is Mainsgill Farm. This is a smart farm shop and great restaurant with some animals to see outside (Free entry).

Both venues are well worth breaking up a journey for.

Place nearScotch corner has recently added a camel, unless we just didn't notice it , along with various llamas , goats etc

Road now much improved with theTemple Sowerby by pass open- looking at 45-50 minutes for Penrith to Scotch corner unless you are really unlucky with the odd tractor ont he last bits of single cariageway.
