You may have heard in the news this morning that the police have condemned drivers who post videos of themselves speeding on YouTube. Story
here
This is in light of a recent investigation and story here
I'll start by saying I'm not a copper but I do work in a closely related field for a large multinational company, and tracking down the
poster (postee??) of almost any internet posting/blog/video is usually fairly straightforward, working on about a 60% success rate. I imagine the
police have a much higher success rate as they can summons either YouTube or your internet provider (whereas I obviously can't!!). That's
not to say that YouTube would provide the info, being a US based company (correct me if wrong) it's not a simple case of asking for the data, and
the same applies to your ISP.
The main reason they are easy to track is general laziness, in that most posters will use ths same user name across a number of sites (usually
Facebook, Myspace etc). They will think that the minimal information posted on one site is not enough to identifty them however, when a few sites are
viewed a bigger picture starts to form.
I am not aware of any successful prosecutions yet, and I imagine alot of them would be out of scope (if the speedo is not in view etc) but I guess
it's not ideal to incriminate yourself regardless.
Anyways, that's my two penneth, I aint gonna tell anyone what to do and TBH I love watching some of the videos just be careful.

They've been tracking down youtube muppets for a while.
I rememeber a discussion here about a lad in his dads car (MR2 Turbo IIRC) doing 120 who was prosecuted (can't find it now
)
Here's a report about a biker back in March

Think this is that story although not sure
where it is on here.
He apparently got some time for that. Bizarrely he was apparently doing 140 but the judge knocked it down to 120 although I can't figure out
why?

One of the arguments has been that these youngsters are playing to an audience, you tube is delivering that audience, take it away and they won't
do it - yeah right!
If the police want to stamp out this behaviour there is only one way, more coppers in cars etc. out on the streets, not sat behind PC's enhancing
pictures from speed camaras! and attaching NIP's
Rant Over.
Pete.
Just a thought;
You can go in halfords and buy videos of people street racing, so why should youtube be any different?
Saying speeding kills is like saying guns kill. They dont, its when idiots get hold of them things go wrong. Same goes for speeding, its only speeding
done by inexperienced drivers in the wrong conditions that kill. If speeding was so bad they would have banned coppers from driving over the speed
limit to reach scenes of crime or in high speed pursuits. Or maybe they should? Or maybe if you have done your advanced driving test you should be
allowed to speed as you are supposedly a better driver?
I'm not looking for an argument, I am just playing devils advocate
I dont speed, mainly because I value my license!

Im sure this isn't a new story really, wasn't there a guy in Japan who was prosecuted after videoing himself driving his Ferrari at 200mph. I can't remember where I read that, but it was a few years ago I noticed it.
I dont see how they can 'do' anyone, take a film of your arms driving a car at 100 mph and if you havent got a tattoo then how can they say
it was you? Yes following a link of your knickname might trace you down but they cant say you were driving. even if they can trace you car this STILL
doesnt mean you broke the law.
As far as i am aware that if this happened to me then i could just say it wasnt me, please show my face (the old get out of a speeding fine line) and
it stops there. i think the police know this and try and scare you into owning up, then its easy to get you.
Its when people show themselves doing it is when its a 50/50 if they are going to get done. a clear picture of you + car + speed is whats needed and
even then its touch and go as you can argue many things in you defence.
Im not keen on the police every time i or my family have needed then they have acted poorly. To go doing this just shows me they are after attention
themselves.
i think all guys with a bike (and cars)have seen what it can do on the road why buy a bike that can do £185mph and neve go over 70mph if they want us to syay at 70max they sould be made restricted in the factory as std.

A driver with an Advanced Driving License generally would not speed in the first place as it is not safe to do so in most circumstances.
That is what the Advanced License is all about - it doesn't make you drive better, it encourages you to consider much more whilst driving,
therefore making you a better driver.

I wonder how they prove the Speedo was Accurate, or displaying the correct speed.
I've got a Digi dash in the tin-top with can be switched instantly from Mph to Kph... always fun when somebody falls asleep and then looks over
at how fast your doing
