oh groan what are they on about now, all this drinking has to stop
you electronic guru's out there, apparently there was some kind of big weird glass glowing warp drive thing in a box that was used in the old
days possibly in old radar sets?? what the hell have they been watching X files !!?? anyone know what this mythical beast is called? I did a search on
the web and got zip. oh apparently it glowed pink how nice, I think that was on the tommy knockers oh look at the time I've got work in the
morning
time to clear up I think.

Gosh,
I can't imagine why Googling for "big weird glass glowing warp drive thing in a box""didn't turn up any useful results
Perhaps you mean a Magnetron which is the microwave generating device inside most (all?) radar
devices and microwave ovens too.
D
Was going to say, either a magnetron or a klystron (if that's how you spell it). Only experience I have had of them (klystron) is the huge water
cooled ones they have in TV transmitters. Even then, I wasn't allowed to touch it!
Chris
A Magnetron and a Klystron shouldn't glow pink.
Perhaps a mercury-vapour rectifier or a neon stabiliser ?
VR150/30 stabiliser rings a very old cracked bell here.

Welcome back Mr Whippy
What was it like on the "other side"?
Was it a plasma sphere? One of those things you held your hand over and it attracted an electric discharge
