Help,
I'm trying to find cheap insurance for a second car. Had the idea of adding the second car to my main policy (well i can't drive two cars at
once) and my insurance company said no.
They quoted me 800 quid for a 1991 1.6 import mx5 third party fire and theft on limited mileage (cause my no claims is stuck with my main car).
What have others done? Is there any good companies to use? Only got an sp60 from 4.5 years ago on my license, car will be parked on the drive in a
nice area, i'm mid thirties. Can't believe i'm being charged the same as an 18 year old.
Blimey!
Cost me less than that!!!
yours is pretty satnadrd car - try the main insuresers chuchill., admiral privilege AA then maybe spoecialists ones like graham syskes, adrian
flux.
it an ideal world you would get one insurance for multiple cars but it donlt work like that; I know .
bolt on a silly body kit to make it look like an Aston and insure it as a kit car

Bus seriously, can't remember which though but there was a company (one of the big main ones) advertising discounts for insuring 2 cars with them
on the telly recently...
Iv'e just had a similar experience of stupid quotes on a second car, best price i got was through moneysupermarket.com

My other cars are insured with Adrian Flux and Bell. All really good value.
AF's customer support can be patchy but my Golf insurance has dropped a lot each year. I'm sure they'd offer something better than
800!!

I insured a 1990 Golf cab for £250 with footman james
most insurers do not like imprts apart from EU ones built to the same spec as a UK model.
For example, my old Clio V6 was bought in Sweden but built in MPH, RH drive spec. As an EU citizen you have the option to shoose those without any
hassel from a dealer!
What you will struggle with are grey imports! I am the MORE TH>N motor product devloper and trust me - underwriters hate them. Esp as Japanesse
cars go through such a strict MOT a lot are not maintained well and sold outside the Jap region.
FWIW
Direct line are boasting that they will allow your full no claims discount on your second car.
Provided you are the sole driver for both.
Ronnie
hmm, but my main insurance isn't with direct line and they don't seem to want to touch a jap import
confused.com.
Seriously matey try the price comparison sites, there are some amzing savings to be had.
Tescocompare.com found the cheapest for me.
Funnily enough tesco's own insurance was only about the 5th cheapest on the tescocompare website!
cheers.
Try Tradex, they do a collectors policy which covers you to drive anything you own, any number of cars, any type - quite reasonable too.
I had the same problem last year with my MX5. Colonade mirrored my full NCB. £27 a month, 38 year old.
Get your wife to insure it and include the spouse

Try putting your new car on the old policy with the full NCD and then insure the old car. It could just be beccause it is an import.
