Crash Helmets & Customs/Import
Kriss - 12/2/08 at 11:27 AM

Hi All,

I have ordered two crash helmets from the states. They should be marked as gift for me which is nice of the guy out there - anyway. My USPS tracking number advises that the items are in customs right now in Great Britain. Anyone know how long the process takes now? They have been there since saturday 9th. Would they then be delivered to my address or would they go to a local DHL etc depot for me to then collect.

If they pipe up about customs and import tax how do i identify they are "Gift"?

cheers

in my experience the GIFT very rarely works. Once they have been released from customs they will be delivered to you house along with a bill, you pay the bill you get the good otherwise they take them back to the depot until you pay the import tax

I think it is the sender who is most likely to get in to trouble if found out as they fraudulently filled out the forms, not you.
Don't worry, just have a bit of patience and it will get to you.

my experience with DHL was, goods delivered no problem , a month later a bill for import duty from DHL

i get a lot of stuff from the usa and hong kong for rc car racing as it's normaly just less than half price
if it gets stopped by customs it normaly gets deliverd by parcel force, so it might be worth a check onlinewith them with your tracking number.
also it's a scam as usual for this country you'll probably get charged £8 handling fee, then another £8 for shipping via parcel force then the Tax

Did you send it the cheap way? If so then it's on the waitinglist. Customs don't have a storageroom themselves. They check everything and immediatly send it to the postoffice and then to you. The USD is low so import now is very big. If you send it express then it should go right through customs with or without a bill. The best thing is to send it as a low value item like 20USD.

I bought a pair of Timberlands from the US. The lady in the supplying shop had obviously done it before. She sent them gift wrapped and with a card wishing me Happy Birthday - they sailed through no probs. Now that's what I call service!
Cheers, Pewe
