I was wondering, can you get a paddle shift for an automatic gearbox?
erm, why would you need one on an auto?
seen a bus (i know! i actually got a bus! :O) a few weeks back, and instead of a lever for drive neutral or reverse, it just 3 buttons. reckon that
would be cool
By definition, I would say not. However, you can with semi-automatic.....

I do not think you have an electonic box, merely a box with sport mode which holds the gears and tightens the shift. Jags of your donor era were
fitted with a ZF-HP-22 box.
If you have a look around and get an earlier Borgwarner type66 SI - Early SIII xj jags you can remove the auto function so end up with essentially 1st
second and third selectable, the later GM400 can also be fiddled with but its huge and heavy so the BW is best for locost weight reasons.

if it has solenoids/relays that you can control to change gear then yes you can - best get the manuals out .
I have the 'J' gate in mine so i can select 2nd to 4th but thought it would be cooler with paddle shift
