Came home today to find the screen on our 32in telly with strange rainbow colours all over the screen
:
Then I remembered my youngest getting some magnetic ball things yesterday,(you can probably guess where this is going)
I can only assume that at some point today she’s found that holding them next to the telly makes the screen look all pretty
colours

Will it go away or is there anything I can do to fix it?
Or is it looking like my digi dash moneys going on a new telly.

Dave....
If it is magnets, it needs de-gausing, have a look in the instructions some tv's and computer screens had a de-gause button. Otherwise its a TV
engineer I'd think... Was a common problem when folk stood hifi speakers on the telly.

I'm guessing it's a CRT not an LCD.
It's been a while since I used to mend tellies - but it sounds like the coating on the back of the screen may need re-anodising.
But nowadays it may be cheaper to buy a new one.

You may be lucky, or not.
A lot of TVs have a built in degaussing circuit. You need to turn the set off at the wall for an hour or so (overnight sounds good around now) when
you switch it back on it it will try to demagnetise itself, often with a 'bonk' type noise. It might need a couple of goes.
Unfortunately my eldest trashed a set doing that, it was just too badly damaged

CRT's have a built in degaussing coil that operates for a few seconds every time you turn the set on. If you are lucky this may be sufficient to
sort the problems out after a few power cycles. Note you need to leave it switched off for a few minutes before the device that operates the
degausser (called a "positor" ) will reset.
If the shadow mask has been strongly magnetised, then your local TV repair shop (if you can find one!) will have a hand held degaussing wand that will
fix it.

My kids have done this a few times using fish tank magnets. It usually goes away after a day or two.
i did that with magnets to my grandmas tv when i was a nipper.
next time we went round there it looked fine
Yes it is a CRT I should have stated that in my first post.
Thanks for the replies so far just had a read through the manual it doesn’t say anything useful so it looks like ill turn if of at the wall and see
what it’s like in the morning.
Fingers crossed at least I’ve got some hope now I really thought it was scrap!
P.s the little sods hidden her magnets in case I take them away

Dave.....
Or carry the telly round the room till the screen goes fuzzy again. Thats the way to find the magnets
Just turned it back on! 30 minutes off at the wall and its back to normal

Cheers guys looks like I’m still getting my digi dash

And she can bring her magnets out of hiding as long as she keeps them away from the telly

Dave....
