Anyone see the new series started last night.

Worth watching just to hear that Clarkson's gay Mercedes has spent most of the summer breaking down, going to dealers for repair, then coming back more broke.

And they were going to test the new VW Golf. But the clutch went after a mile.

Hahahahaha

Yes, it did raise a titter!!

But the Ford Gt - you would.

Ben_Copeland - 27/10/03 at 11:28 AM

I like the idea of clarkson's head being an antenna lol

Ford GT was nice !

And yes, that 5 series BMW is very ugly !

That 5 series is just different. I personally liked it . i thought it was a bit lazy not to mention that the new look - and indeed the computer control inside was wholesale new 7 series though.

I think one they're on the road, most 5 series owners will just tick the company car box that says "BMW 5 Series" anyway.

I'd have one. But then i like the new Laguna!!

i'd have an old M5 all day long. Dont care about the new ones, the old shape (t reg etc) looks mint!

Am I the only person not to care too much for the Ford GT?

I think it's a poor, tacky imitation of a classic......they should have come up with a new shape..IMO

Alan,

Inclined to agree with you.

From the side I thought it vaguely resembled a Porsche 914. No idea how, cos they're completety different shapes.

And, the rear arches just look so out of place.

They made it longer, wider and taller - probably the reason it's no longer called the GT40. Wouldn't sound right GT43.5

They tried making different shapes - GT 70?/90. Top Gear repeated the pics of JC driving the 90. Ugly as in!!

Still, (partly) made in the UK, so it must be quite good!!

Ford GT - I don't usually like fords but I would too.

BMW 5 series - should be good for cheap insurance - with all those strange panel shapes it would be difficult to know if an accident had caused any damage or not. The first one time I saw one it was not from one of the better angles. Trouble is I am still wondering what is a better angle. It is probably true that it will sell to those who don't look beyond the badge when choosing their car.

Autocar disagreed with the Top Gear verdic though and placed the S-type jag at the top as a drivers car.

Peteff - 28/10/03 at 10:11 AM

BMW 5 series - looked like an early Vectra to me.

yours, Pete.

I thought the Ford GT looked more like one of those early American Kit cars. No offence intended!

There are some cars that are just perfect to look at. The GT40 being one of them! You go and change it and it just doesn't look right.
From the side it looked all out of proportion, like a lot of American cars do to European tastes.
The wheel arches were far too high and slab sided.

Alan B - 29/10/03 at 03:14 AM

Exactly Terry.....

I'm sure if some kit company had come out with it everyone would be saying what an inaccurate, badly proportioned, tacky pile of crap....

IMO of course...

DaveFJ - 29/10/03 at 09:40 AM

Just to be different - I LIKED IT...
