Re focus after baby!!
Jumpy Guy - 17/2/08 at 07:36 PM

Two reasons for this post -
1. To announce my new addition- Jacob, born on 18th jan, 7 lb 7 oz

2. to publicily state that I will have the car finsihed by the end of the year. There, done it. If I dont, the forum can pelt me with dirty nappies!

I havent even touched the car for 9 months- been buidling utility rooms, nursery etc etc...

Now, dont have the time or money to get out, so no excuse not to get stuck in to the car in the garage..

So.... Hello, after 9 months of absence!

HAHA!!

Thats funny.

You think you'll have TIME.... a little nieve I feel.

I thought the same, buying a part built just before baby arrived. He's now 6 months old and I think I've managed to grab the odd 10 mins looking at it before SWMBO noticed I wasn't around and I was summoned for stiff talking to....

Good luck mate.

Oh and CONGRATS! It is great being a Dad, just time consuming.

Congratulations to you and mrs jumpy, make the most of baby time its the best part.

It wont be long before jacob will walk run climb and destroy, you will then want to spend as much time as possible in the garage.

Jumpy Guy - 17/2/08 at 07:47 PM

part of the deal was that i properly insulated the garage (built onto the side of the house)

So, i can wheel him asleep into the garage whiel i work, and 'babysit' him

Thats the theory, anyway!!

Best of luck.

My only advice - and I never ever give advice.

Take your time and do it whenever you can, but not at the expense of far more important stuff.

You would never forgive yourself if you miss out on the important early days.
The car will keep.

There you go, I said the wrong thing.

Congratulations.

I have 2 boys, 5 and 3 and if I 5 mins to myself I'm lucky

(wouldn't change it though )

Congratulations on the new addition. Good luck with finishing the car.

StevieB - 17/2/08 at 08:19 PM

Congrats on the new addition.

And well done on the joke - you think you'll havr time for the garage!

When I did manage to get in the garage, I was being called back in every 5 minutes to help with something/change a nappy/feed the baby/hold the baby while SWMBO goes to toilet etc. Sounds fine, but you can't start any long and dirty jobs because you have to be clean enough to help with the baby at 10 seonds notice!

David Jenkins - 17/2/08 at 08:21 PM

He'll certainly pick up a whole new vocabulary if you babysit him in the garage!

Oh - congratulations BTW!

Congratulations matey.

I hit a dead spot with my build after my son was born. I then got my evenings back after he started sleeping through at around 3 months. I got the car finished tested and registered by the time he was a year old. he's just turned 2 and now we have twins arriving in 6 weeks so the car has today been declared SORN as the tax and insurance are up at the end of the month. It will either be sold ar sat still for a very long time

Good luck and enjoy your son (they are actually better than cars dare I say it)

matt.c - 17/2/08 at 08:58 PM

good luck with the new little one Mine will be here on june 17 so the indy WILL be finnished before then!!

dnmalc - 17/2/08 at 10:11 PM

baby sitting in the garage that may sound ok but have you broken this to SWMBO i think not.
However now is the time to start building up his toolkit.
With my daugthers it took about 5 yrs before I could get back to anything serious in the garage.

my son was born on the 11th january and he was 7lb 7oz to. today was the first day i have had in the garage since november and that was only because the wife took the boys to the inlaws.

Congrats on the wee lad....I got the plans for my Formula 27, 2 months after my son was born. The hilarious joke was that he would be old enough to drive it before I finished it .....good news for you .......it's very near to completion.....bad news for you ....He'll be 16 in October ....it's called perseverance (spell?).

Good Luck sir !

Congrats. Its a great time. As Zil says, you can build a car any time but once they grow up the early days are gone forever.

I managed to build my car when second daughter was born. Didnt really slow me down. I just ensured both kids were settled in bed before i went out into garage and worked a little later sometime. Rarely worked on car during the day at weekends - that was and always has been family time (unless we are busy with house project).
