Why not have a category on here to swap skills, e.g. electrics for spraying, Welding for engine work etc. etc...

Cheers.
Pete.

Like it.

I have a flip chart marker and will travel.

Wouldn't they just go in the Tools & Techniques section?

r1_pete - 19/2/08 at 02:59 PM

Guess so Coozer, I was thinking along the lines of folk getting together and working on each other cars, rather than swapping written ideas.

I know there's pride in doing it all ones self, but some things frustrate the hell out of some folk, and are easy for others....

Whilst we are on, what about copying the Caterham lots "alturistic delivery service"?

http://www.blatchat.com/f.asp?id=23

Basically you buy something on ebay / free ads / from a supplier, but consider the delivery charge to be excessive. You post the start and finish points, along with timescale and what it is.

Then people say "I could collect it for you and get it to XXXXXXX." Then the next member posts up and can take it the next bit of the journey. etc etc.

Seems like we have enough generous and widley travelled members to make it work?

Like the idea. I guess it doesn't have to be limited to car skills - I could come and secure your wireless network to borrow a compressor for a couple of days or something. The delivery network idea is quite cool too. OK as long as you're not in a hurry for something I guess!

I'm not sure you'd want me round your place as things have a habit of burning down when I'm around!

Yeah thats quite good.
- We do a simular thing just within our family.

I have also thought in the past (and it may have already be done) about the feasablity of a 'locost' aa/recovery service.

It was when i thought i was having alternator trouble with the peugote, and if figured i would be ok because if i left bristol (going north) with a fall charge before it went, i would be bound to get as far worcester anyway, where my uncal has a trailer, and could have dragged my home where i could have fixed it.

And you quite frequently see adverts asking for the loan/use of trailers, engine hoists and the like.

There must be scores of seven/car owners with such equipent who would lend there services to a severn/motorest in need for the price of there time.

Get an online database of that setup and you ruddy away!

I like the idea of build parties too!

We all go round to one persons house, he makes the tea's, we stand around for a while, then go home, having totally wasted his day in the garage

On the other hand, there are times when you really could do with a few additional eyes / hands / ideas. Things like getting the engine / gearbox in for you CEC boys, getting the thing off the build table / trestles. Sorting out why the seat is in backwards (Clarkson stylee).

PMSL - very funny, especially the stand around drinking tea bit!

It's a great idea, the build part bit.

I would want to make sure the place was tidy first though. Can't have people talking about how untidy your shed is.
