I did my Prince 2 foundation exam today (successfully - even though I missed 20% of the course).

Is the practioners' exam worth doing?

yes. defo.

where did you learn? was it an online course?

No, I did the three day course (missed a morning) with work via the University of Glamorgan. Apparently the Practioners' Exam is just more of the same and you can take the manual in as well??!!

Most PM's I have worked with over the years only use some elements of Prince 2 and develop their own or company specific methodologies for project management. Some are and some are not Prince 2 certified or practitioners but almost bar none, they don't have anything good to say about it.

Sorry thats not very positive but that's the reality which I have encountered.

I did it a while back, I have to say the second one is easy. Open book... gets you the all important interview.

the only thing to practice is writing.. If (like me) you've spent the last xxx years only using a pen to sign your name etc.. the six/seven A4 sheets are murder on the wrist!!!

Its actually supposed to be a lot harder than the first exam. Well thats how everyone i've spoken to has found it.

Its one way of proving that you've got some ability in structures project management towards a recognised standard.

My tip for the exam is to read the case study completely first. Then, and only then, look at the questions. That way you've got knowledge about the case study without thinking "aah, thats what this questions must be about". It makes a BIG difference.

The reason we ran the course is, primarily, because we're embarking on a major project, with some significant changes in certain areas of the organisation. I'm on our 'corporate board' so won't have a direct involvement in the project but may need to feed in on some specialist areas

I thought it might be worth trying the next exam while it's fresh in my mind, and I have nothing to lose!
