Removing Trojans
speedyxjs - 24/2/08 at 05:16 PM

I have just run the norton anti spyware on the yahoo toolbar and it has found two trojans. When i click to delete them, it says administrative rights may be required and doesnt delete them.
The strange thing is that AVG hasnt found these trojans. How do i get rid of them?

Maybe, Norton is seeing the AVG program.

Just a thought.

I'm going this evening to try and get rid of one in particular that AVG does pick up in the outlaws PC , but even though it says it's cleaned it it does'nt.
This one is apparently quite common Delf.12.AG, in the cscdl.dll file, but I can't find a tool to specifically clean it. Sorry for the slight hijack.

Haveyou tried Spybot Search and destroy, thats good for many trojan type gremlins?

Sorry... I just read the title and thought... "grab hold of the ring at the bottom and pull forwards, taking care not to spill the contents..."

I'll get my coat...

Speedy

You need to boot in safe mode - on startup sequence press and hold F8. This should take you through the procedure to allow you to delete it without administrator rights.

Run AVG/Spybot/Adaware etc the delete the offender. If it still asks for administrator rights you will need to sign on as an Administrator.

I hope this works - some Trojans are a nightmare to get rid of - maybe quicker to re-format the drive.

Good luck - I hope this helps....

Confused but excited. - 24/2/08 at 09:37 PM

Norton domestic anti-spyware is crap!
I had Norton Internet Security, which is supposed to be their best.
When I did a check to test my security on the Norton website, it told me that my computer was wide open and I should buy Norton Anti Spyware or even better Norton Internet Security.
I did not receive a reply to the e-mails that I sent them querying this.

If you still have trouble, try asking on this site:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/ or using one of these tools:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/index.php

They helped me get rid of this nasty Coolwebsearch bug a few years back and seem to know their stuff.
