why is it not ok to pour oil down a drain, but quite ok to clean a oily engine with gunk, and just rinse it off down the drain?
To be honest, my clenings are poured into a container and taken to the oil depot as per used oil. I dont put anything like that down the drain...
Pete.
i just find it strange that gunk doesn't say to do that, it just says hose it off...
No don't do that, pour it down the neighbors drain so it's them who gets in trouble.
Then tut disapprovingly then the police take them away
Yeah but how would the police ever find out?

They will do a mega serious investigation work, taking samples from every junction of a drain system. As they move back up the system, they will ventually find traces in your drain and screw you for it! Neither oil nor detergents should go down a drain, but invariably detergents do go down storm drains (washing cars etc)....
Small quantities (relatively speaking) of emulsified oil won't harm much - neat oil is another matter though.
lol, i'm not saying i do it! calm down everyone
think razman's got the answer i was looking for here.
i was just wondering why engine cleaner bottles don't mention collecting everything and disposing properly. didn't know what the difference
