DVLA again!!
owelly - 10/3/08 at 01:06 PM

I sold my Alfa before Christmas. The guy who bought it filled in the V5 and I posted it the same day. I have just recieved a letter from DVLA informing me that I have to pay a £55 fine (£35 if I pay it within the next two days) or go to court!!
I 'phoned them to tell tham that I had posted the V5 as instructed by the V5 so what more could I do? They DVLA guy said if I fill in the statement on the reverse of the letter informing them of the guy I sold the car to, they will consider my claims! I don't have the new guys details as they were on the V5 I posted!!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

And besides, the letter I got from the DVLA wasn't recorded delivery or anything, so it's possible I,ve never even received it!!

yeah i have had to pay a fine in the past due to them losing a form even though it was handed to them at their office. Bunch of crooks

I had one lost too. I protested and filled in the declaration. Waited about a month and they wrote back saying no further action would be taken.

Just don't drop it - LOADS of things get lost in the post and that's not your fault.

Unless you're a postman?
Have a cat called Jess?
An amazing private plate on a small red van??

Looks possible the new owner hasn`t tried register, or is still expecting to recieve the paperwork in the post.
Its great how were ment to police everything owerselves or face a fine.
If it goes to court i cannot see how they have a case?

I have just been through a similar thing. Send a letter to them stating what you just said. Send it recorded. They should drop it. Then its up to the bloke you sold it to to reapply for the v5.
