Transferring a "normal" registration from a car

If you had an old car thats got what could be deemed as having a desirable ish registration as "standard" can you just transfer it off (assuming it doesn't have "Reg not transferable in the V5"? If so do you get re-issued another reg in the same year to put on it so it can still be used?

I've transferred private reg's in the past but never moved off the reg that came with a car in the first place onto retention etc.

Had a quick look on DVLA website but couldn't find the answer.

Not saying its not on there though

Yes you can, as long as the car has an MOT I believe. I presume you get issued another plate from the same year, but that new one will be non-transferable (correct me if I'm wrong, anyone?). I think that it's done so you can't just keep getting 'free' valuable dateless plates and making huge profits!

Yeah its MOT'd.

That makes sense so you can't keep generating valuable plates, especially for proper old cars with ABC 123 type plates.

This is how I thought it worked but wasn't sure as I haven't actually done it before...
