don't use a dremel with a mop attachmet as the heat generated will warp the cd causing the silvering to crack in qite a spectacular fashion (no need to ask how I know that :mad

make a copy of the disc that norm works wont fix old but norm plays copy fine

The copy trick often works because the error checking is quite good when copying - not so good when reading.
Also try another drive to see if it reads better.
